The recycling of images in the creative process of a new narrative.

Recycling, editing and sequence: these are the main themes of the workshop “How to Recycle in Storytelling” that the curators of the second edition of SÅM Artistic Residency program, the book designer Ania Nalecka and the visual artist Rafal Milach (Magnum Photos Agency) will hold in Bosco Chiesanuova (Verona) during the opening weekend of the 25th edition of the Film Festival della Lessinia from 23 to 25 August 2019.

The starting point of the 3 days intense workshop will be the region of Lessinia and its archives represented in various range of mediums such as photography, literature or film. Participants will have to create a story based on materials found in local library archive or use other visual resources that will be later on recycled into the new narratives. To complete the storylines participants will produce new visuals using photography, collage etc.

The outcome of the workshop will be presented in form of zine.

The workshop will be in English with the presence of a translator.

Those registered by July 31 will be able to take advantage of the convention of the Film Festival della Lessinia with the accommodation facilities.

MENTORS:

 

ANIA NALECKA-MILACH – born 1977, book designer (alias Tapir Book Design since 2009). Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice – Printmaking and Graphic Design – in 2002. Guest workshops: ISSP (Kuldiga, Latvia, 2014), PHOTOEspana 2014 (Madrid, Spain, 2014), FUAM (Istanbul, Turkey, 2015), Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice (Katowice, Poland, 2016), Fonderia 20.9 (Werona, Italy, 2017), DOOR (Rome, Italy, 2017), CNA (Dudelange, Lunxemburg, 2017), Anzenberger Gallery (Vienna, Austria, 2018).

RAFAL MILACH (nato nel 1978 a Gliwice, Polonia) Visual artist, photographer, author of photobooks. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and ITF in Opava (Czech Republic). He currently lectures in the latter institution. For over 10 years, Rafał Milach has been working on transition issues in Russian-speaking countries and the CEE region. He has earned worldwide recognition for his books – “The Winners”, “Black Sea of Concrete”, “7 Rooms”. He received grants from the Ministry of Culture, Magnum Foundation and the European Cultural Foundation. He has won prestigious prizes, including the World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International. Co-founder of the Sputnik Photos collective. Selected individual exhibitions: C/O Berlin and Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw. He has had a number of group shows. His works are found in the collections of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan, Brandts in Odense (Denmark), CCA Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, ING Polish Art Foundation, Museum in Gliwice (Poland). Since 2018 nominee member of Magnum Photos.
